Does your hair never grow past a certain length?⁣
⁣
A few things could be at play. Firstly, if the ends of your hair are brittle & breaking, even if your hair is growing from your scalp, you’re never going to see it get longer if it 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛𝙛 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨. Less heat, less blonding, less messy buns, less aggressive brushing, less dry shampoo. More masks, more oiling, more frequent trims..etc.⁣

The second thing is not as easily “fixed” and it may not be able to be changed no matter how kind you are to your hair. And that is your hair’s 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚.⁣

Each hair on your head has a life span. A folical produces a new baby hair that grows for a while (2-6 years), then it stops growing and rests there, then is shed out. Hair grows about 6” per year, if you have a short growth phase, your hair may only be growing 12” before it is done with that phase and into the resting and shedding phase. (Throughout your life you may experience difference seasons of growth cycles)⁣

The Jury is still out as to whether or not we can successfully lengthen the growth phase. But we can certainly optimize it. By giving your hair the best chance at keeping all of that length that it is growing. I know I post a lot of amazing growth stories here on my page but I do need to bring up the fact that sometimes that sort of result over time is simply not in the cards for some. It’s my responsibility to help manage expectations and while it would be amazing if everyone could experience great success in growing their natural hair, there is a percentage of people who simply have a shorter growth cycle. ⁣

𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲. ⁣

We were making paper dolls in class & after I glued the yarn to my doll, I remembered my mom doing my Barbie’s hair & I tried to copy her motions as I stitched together my first braid.⁣
⁣
When I was in middle school, my parents fostered teens & two of the girls who were living with us ended up going through the cosmetology program (& are still very successful in the industry today!) I was of course the practice dummy & loved every second of it! By then, I was counting down the days until I could enroll for myself.⁣

In August of 2008 I started going to cosmetology school during the afternoon half of the day of my Sr. year of high school. I was obsessed. Aced every test & never missed an hour unless I was miserably sick. The school was 45 minutes away so I wouldn’t get home until about 5 every night and still carried out my regular high school life like homework & dance team (oh & this was the year I became pregnant with my oldest. It was a lot for a 17 yr old.) ⁣

As your hair grows, the rows of your extensions move farther from your head, so we need to reset them back up to your scalp in a timely manner to avoid damage. 8 weeks is average, although some clients need closer to 6 weeks, while others can go 10+!⁣ (unsure when you should come in? I have a post for that! Scroll my feed until you see a reel with “How often should I come in for maintenance?” on the cover photo!)⁣

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲⁣
Standard maintenance appointments don’t include a wash & blow dry so we do need your hair to be fairly clean. ⁣(but if you want to book for a shampoo/blowout too, then come as greasy as you wish 😆)⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀⁣
I always do a full take down & reinstallation. This is the safest way to go about things in order to keep your natural hair as healthy as possible and allows me to trim your natural hair while your extensions are out. I like to trim your natural hair darn near every time! That also lets you check in on how the health of your hair is doing! You can plan for about 60 minutes per row! We touch up your style & you are on your way!!⁣

𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼?⁣
After removing your rows and trimming your hair, I apply your color. While you process I will touch up your extension’s color and after we rinse you both we will bring it all back together at the end! ⁣
⁣
I love encouraging my clients to embrace a low maintenance color (one that you only need to touch up every OTHER maintenance appointment. This keeps your time in the salon down to a manageable length (I know we don’t all love spending 4-5 hours out of our day sitting in one place!) and coloring less often is better for your hair health in general! I say since the more low-maintenance/natural hair colors are “in” we might as well ride that wave while we can!⁣

3 signs that your wefts need replacing ⁣
⁣
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗺⁣
This is where the individual extensions hairs are tied or adhered on to the weft. If this seam is damaged or degrading from improper brushing or being left wet, we’ll need to replace this weft in order to keep your install safe with clean stitching. This could warrant a replacement at any time even if the hair itself is still in good shape! ⁣
⁣
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵/𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀⁣
Through normal wear and tear of wearing the extensions, things like mechanical damage from brushing, and heat damage can cause split ends just like our natural hair. So we trim the ends to keep them looking nice. The difference is that the extension hair can’t grow back. So you can expect to loose about a 1/2” every maintenance appointment. (Blonde hair is a bit more fragile by nature and tends to lose those inches a little quicker)⁣
⁣
Since each strand of extension hair is hand-tied on to the weft, some of these hairs might slip through the knots with brushing, friction, tension, etc. so over time your wefts will lose a little bit of density⁣
⁣
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿/𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲⁣
Wefts at the end of their lifespan do not hold color well and will often fade very quickly and blondes will go brassy faster than new hair.⁣
⁣
𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙤?!⁣
I keep replacement wefts in stock at all times. So no need to fear the idea of not being able to reinstall on the day of your appointment if I take your extensions out and discover a weft that’s no longer viable! And if you aren’t prepared to replace anything that day, I can usually find a solution to get you through until your next appointment when we can pop a new one in! This might be removing the weft and living with a little less hair for the time being, or maybe we decide to edit the color portion of your appointment and put those funds towards the new weft instead! ⁣

I have an equal amount of clients who replace over time and who replace all at once. It’s whatever you prefer! ⁣
